Soundgarden released their third studio effort, “Badmotorfinger,” on October 8, 1991. That album followed their 1989 release “Louder Than Love” and featured the singles “Jesus Christ Pose,” "Outshined" and "Rusty Cage.”The album brought the progressive grunge rockers into the national spotlight, hitting number 39 on the Billboard 200 chart. At the time, it garnered widespread praise for its balance of heavy influences with memorable hooks."I think there's songs on the new record which are almost more commercially viable because they have that memorable feel to them, and I think if anyone expected us to come out and make something more commercial than Louder Than Love, then I'm glad that they were surprised,” Chris Cornell told Raw magazine of the album in 1991.
