The co-founder of private investment firm Bain Capital the Republican Party's nominee for President of the United States in the 2012 election.

He was the 70th Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007.

He was also a Republican candidate in the 1994 Massachusetts election for U.S. Senate. But, he lost to Ted Kennedy, who run TV spots featuring people who had been laid off by Romney's company.

Under his leadership, Bain Capital invested or acquired hundreds of companies, including household names such as Staples, Domino's Pizza and The Sports Authority. He also worked as Chief Executive Officer of his old consulting firm, Bain & Company.

Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Romney served as the bishop. He also has a successful stint as president and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
