The ninth largest beer company in the world is the Europe-based company Diageo, a British multinational alcoholic beverages company headquartered in London, England. Diageo was formed in 1997 from the merger of Guinness and Grand Metropolitan. Ever since, it has acquired several brands and facilities, and also sold some off. In November 2012, Diageo acquired a 53.4% stake in the Indian spirits company United Spirits. In June 2017, Diageo agreed to buy George Clooney's high-end tequila brand, Casamigos for around USD 1 billion. Diageo is a global leader in alcohol beverages, with an outstanding collection of brands across spirits, beer and wine. Jamaican Lager, Red Stripe, and Smirnoff are its most popular brands.
