Cadillac introduced the Cimarron in 1982 to compete against European luxury compacts that flooded the U.S. market. However, the vehicle was just a rebadged version of the front-drive, four-cylinder Chevrolet Cavalier. As if that was not enough, Cadillac was sold at higher prices than the other J-platform sedans. The end result was that Cadillac lost a lot of goodwill and market share due to the Cimarron launch.
