A vaccine against the novel coronovirus is being developed by Osaka University, AnGes Inc. and Takara Bio Inc.Current Status: The vaccine is under phase I/II trials in Japan.Mode of Action: The vaccine is a plasmid-based DNA vaccine encoding the S protein of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. When a healthy individual is administered the vaccine, the pathogen protein is produced in the body and immunized against the pathogen.Next Milestone:The initial phase of the trial will enroll 30 healthy individuals, which if successful will be expanded to 400 participants. If all goes well, the vaccine is expected to be ready in the first half of 2021.
