Lampit (nifurtimox), developed by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc., secured accelerated approval from the FDA on August 6, 2020, for the treatment of Chagas disease in pediatric patients of less than 18 years of age and weighing at least 2.5 kg.

Chagas disease, also known as American trypanosomiasis, is a life-threatening illness caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, which is transmitted to animals and people by insect vectors. This tropical disease affects about 300,000 people in the U.S.
