Barry Manilow scored a number-one hit with the song “Looks Like We Made It,” which made it to the top of the charts on July 23, 1977. The track was initially released as part of Manilow’s fourth studio album, “This One’s For You,” and was initially released that April. When Manilow hit the top of the chart, he claimed number one from Shaun Cassidy and his cover of “Da Doo Ron Ron.” He held on at number one for one week before he was succeeded by Andy Gibb with his hit "I Just Want to Be Your Everything.”“Look’s Like We Made It” was penned by songwriters Richard Kerr and Will Jennings. While speaking with Billboard, Jennings revealed that the lyric is often misunderstood:"Richard [Kerr] and I have often remarked on the people, millions of them in the world, who misunderstood the lyric of 'Looks Like We Made It.' It is a rather sad and ironic lyric about making it apart and not together, and of course everyone thinks it is a full on, positive statement. I don't know. Perhaps it is... in a way."
