According to a filing made with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday evening, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) co-founder and Chairman Bill Gates' Cascade Investment, LLC, holds 6% stake in Hamilton, Bermuda-based insurance company Arch Capital Group Ltd. (ACGL).
Kirkland, Washington-based limited liability company Cascade owns nearly 3.56 million shares of Arch Capital. Based on Arch Capital's closing price of $71.89 on Thursday, Gates' holding in Arch Capital is valued at $255.8 million.
According to a 13F-HR filing made on May 15, 2009, Cascade Investment held stakes in several companies, including Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRKa, BRKb), Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based automotive retailer AutoNation Inc. (AN), and Phoenix, Arizona-based Republic Services Inc. (RSG).
In October, Arch Capital Group reported a ten-fold increase in its profit for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009.
ACGL closed Thursday's trading session at $71.89. For the 52-week period, the company's trading range was in the range of $44.68 - $72.25.
