Advanced Semiconductor Q3 Profit Declines - Update

Taiwan-based Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc. (ASX) Friday reported a decline in third quarter profit, reflecting a 9 percent drop in net revenues.

In the third quarter, the semiconductor packaging and testing services company's net income declined to New Taiwan Dollar, or NT$3.47 billion from NT$5.46 billion in the previous year. On a per share basis, earnings were NT$0.52, lower than NT$0.81 per share reported last year.

Earnings per ADS were $0.089, compared to $0.127 per ADS in the same quarter last year.

Total net revenues declined 9 percent to NT$46.7 billion from NT$51.49 billion in the preceding year.

Net revenues from IC ATM declined 4 percent to NT$32.58 billion. EMS operations contributed revenues of NT$14.12 billion, down 19 percent from a year ago. Meanwhile, gross margin improved 0.2 percentage points to 12.2 percent.

Net revenues from our IC packaging operations were NT$26.34 billion, a decrease of 4 percent from the preceding year and gross margin was down 2.9 percentage points to 19.5 percent.

Testing operations revenues declined 9 percent to NT$5.5 billion. Gross margin for testing operations was 32.5 percent, down 6.3 percentage points from a year ago.

ASX closed Thursday's regular trading at $4.63 on the NYSE.
