Wednesday, CGI Federal Inc., a wholly owned U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group Inc., (GIB, GIB.A.TO), said that it has received a 3-year, US$67 million, support contract from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA.

The Montreal, Canada-based provider of independent information technology and business process services stated that it has been chosen by the EPA to provide support for the agency's Central Data Exchange, or CDX, the point of entry for the transmission of environmental data to EPA on the national Environmental Information Exchange Network.

The company noted that the EPA's CDX enables the streamlined, electronic submission of environmental data over the internet between EPA and its external stakeholders, including the states and regulated industries.

Providing capability for submitters to access their data through the use of Web services, CGI would support EPA's CDX through built-in quality checks, standard file formats, and a common approach to exchanging data.

Commenting on the contract, CGI Federal president George Schindler, said, "As a long time partner of EPA, CGI is pleased to support this critical program, a key part of the Obama administration's environmental regulatory mission."

"We look forward to leveraging our 30 years of EPA experience to help deliver this critical environmental data in the transparent manner that the government and public expect," concluded George.

Shares of the company ended Tuesday's trading session at $8.11 a share on the NYSE.
