U.S. Justice Dept. Seeks Additional Information Regarding Bemis-Alcan Packaging Deal - Quick Facts

Bemis Company Inc. (BMS) announced that it received a request for additional information and documentary material, often referred to as a "Second Request," from the United States Department of Justice in connection with its Hart-Scott-Rodino regulatory review of Bemis' proposed acquisition of the Food Americas operations of Alcan Packaging from Rio Tinto plc Rio Tinto plc (RTP,RIO.L).

In July, Bemis Company agreed to acquire the Food Americas operations of Alcan Packaging, a business unit of international mining group Rio Tinto plc, for $1.2 billion.

Under the agreement, Bemis will acquire the 23 Food Americas flexible packaging facilities spread out in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and New Zealand that manufacture flexible packaging for the food and beverage industries. The transaction is forecast to close by end of this year.
