Wednesday, Landstar System Inc. (LSTR) reported third-quarter net income of $20.1 million or $0.39 per share, compared to net income of $32.8 million or $0.62 per share in the same quarter last year.
On average, 16 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.38 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items. Revenue for the quarter was $500.7 million, down from $732.8 million in the comparable quarter last year. Analysts expected the company to report revenue of $512.98 million for the quarter.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, the company expects revenue to be similar to the third quarter revenue. Earnings are expected to be in the range of $0.37 - $0.42 per share. Analysts currently anticipate the company to earn $0.40 per share on revenue of $507.94 million.
The company also declared a quarterly dividend of $0.045 per share, payable on November 27, 2009 to stockholders of record at the close of business on November 2, 2009.
