Willis Group Holdings Ltd. (WSH) reported third-quarter net income attributable to shareholders of $79 million compared to $36 million last year. Earnings per share attributable to shareholders increased to $0.47 from $0.25 last year.
Net income from continuing operations, net of tax, attributable to shareholders $78 million or $0.46 per share compared to $36 million or $0.25 per share a year ago.
Excluding certain items, adjusted net income from continuing operations was $90 million or $0.53 per share compared to $45 million or $0.32 per share last year.
On average, 16 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit of $0.37 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenues were $725 million compared to $579 million last year. Analysts expected revenue of $709.61 million for the quarter.
The Board of Directors declared a regular quarterly cash dividend on the company's common stock of $0.26 per share, or an annual rate of $1.04 per share. The dividend is payable on January 15, 2010 to shareholders of record on December 30, 2009.
