Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL) reported third quarter net income of $230.4 million, or $1.07 per share, compared to net income of $411.9 million, or $1.92 per share in the prior year quarter.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $1.00 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenues for the quarter were $1.8 billion, compared to $2.1 billion in the prior year quarter. Fifteen analysts had consensus revenue estimate of $1.77 billion for the quarter.
Looking ahead, the company predicts fourth quarter loss per share of about $0.05. Analysts expect the company to report earnings of $0.04 per share for the fourth quarter. For fiscal 2009, the company now expects earnings per share of about $0.70. Earlier, the company expected earnings to be between $0.70 and $0.80 per share. Analysts expect the company to report earnings of $0.74 per share for fiscal 2009.
