A London man has been "indefinitely" detained following his assault of The X-Factor star Leona Lewis on October 14.
Peter Kowalczyk reportedly punched the singer across the right side of her face as she signed copies of her autobiography at a Westminster bookstore.
Kowalczyk, who suffers from schizophrenia, was heard saying "gotcha" as he was wrestled to the floor after the attack. He has since pleaded guilty to the assault charge and will be held at a London hospital.
"I feel completely devastated by this attack," Lewis said in a statement. "Now I am very frightened about going out in public and I don't know where the next attack will come from and if this will be more serious than what has just happened."
District Judge Howard Riddle handed down the sentence, saying, "This is what happens when you don't take your medication. A woman is now devastated."
