TeleCommunication Systems Inc. (TSYS) said it was issued the U.S. Patent on "Mobile Originated Interactive Menus Via Short Messaging Services" by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
TCS patent number 7,640,031 describes a 2-way interactive short message system or SMS, which provides personalized messaging menus to a handset, the company noted.
The company stated that unlike browser-based menu systems for mobile devices, this invention enables mobile originated interactive menus using SMS communications instead of circuit switched data, thereby leaving traffic channels available for voice calls.
Currently, TCS holds 108 patents with over 300 applications pending.
