PC maker Dell (DELL) and Beijing-based cloud management system vendor Infobird Software Co Ltd , Friday said they have signed a memorandum of understanding to provide cloud-based call center solutions to customers in China. The partnership will explore the immense cloud-computing technology market potential in China.

Under the deal, which is still being negotiated over more definitive agreements for cooperation, the two companies have agreed to provide cloud-based, enterprise-level Internet communication platform services to companies in China.

Collaboration with Infobird will also leverage Dell's small and medium customer base by providing them with a cloud-computing service platform from Infobird called Qitongbao with a contact center as its core, which is expected to help enhance business communication and customer management.

The functions of Qitongbao, other than call center operations and customer management, includes sales management that helps companies avoid missing any sales opportunities and improve conversion rates of potential customers, monitor quality of service in real-time and manage advertising effectiveness.

Moses Wu Yi-min, President of Infobird said Dell's sales people used telesales to promote Qitongbao to several thousand of Dell's existing customers; most of them showed great interest in the product and some of them even bought the software within that month. This satisfying result has inspired both Infobird and Dell to explore further opportunities through their partnership.

While gaining new heights in cloud computing, Dell also faced some setback, the most recent being related to that of a patent claim. Attempts made by Dell to trademark the term "cloud computing" in the United States stirred up rancor amongst competitors. The attempt made earlier in 2007 was rejected by the US Patent and Trademark Office, reversing its course on its earlier move for granting trademark rights.

In addition to the current agreement, Dell also has an arrangement with an enterprise cloud computing company salesforce.com (CRM) that offers cloud computing services to small and medium businesses in the United States. The program requires no hardware or software and works with subscription based pricing starting from $9 per user per month.

The Infobird-Dell Partnership partnership is aimed at 42 million small and medium business in China, with Qitongbao using Dell's direct sales channel is expected to reduce operations cost and improve efficiency of enterprises.

While indicating Qitongbao as the starting point of the Infobird-Dell Partnership, Infobird also noted that it is developing many new cloud-computing tools to help enterprises to better manage their clients while benefiting from cloud computing technologies.

DELL is currently trading at $14.88,up $0.16 or 1.09%, on a volume of 2.64 million shares.
