Cato Corp. Jan. Same-Store Sales Down 4% - Quick Facts

Thursday, The Cato Corp. (CATO) said its same-store sales for the month of January decreased 4% from the prior year. Net sales for the four weeks ended January 30, 2010 were down 1% to $52.1 million from $52.4 million in the prior year period.

Same-store sales for fiscal fourth quarter ended January 30, 2010 increased 2%. Sales for the quarter were $217.7 million, an increase of 4% from $209.1 million in the year-ago period.

Full-year same-store sales rose 1%. Sales for the year increased 3% to $872.1 million from $845.7 million in the previous year period.

The company said it continues to expect fourth-quarter earnings per share to be in the range of $0.20 - $0.22. Full-year earnings per share are projected to be in the range of $1.51 - $1.53. Two analysts estimate earnings of $0.22 per share for the quarter and $1.52 per share for the year.
