Alpha Natural Resources Inc. (ANR) reported that its fourth-quarter net income increased to $17.947 million or $0.15 per share from $5.608 million or $0.08 per share last year.
Income per share from continuing operations decreased to $0.17 from $0.49 prior year. Adjusted earnings per share from continuing operations was $0.51 compared to a loss of $0.19 per share prior year.
On average, 19 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit of $0.45 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenues increased to $893.287 million from $583.600 million last year. Analysts expected revenue of $827.81 million for the quarter.
