Details about Rage Against the Machine's free show in the U.K. should be available later this week, according to Live Nation promoter and Download Music Festival booker Andy Copping.

The band promised to give a free show in December after more than 500,000 U.K. music fans gave the band's 1992 single, "Killing in the Name," the coveted Christmas number one spot over X Factor winner Joe McElderry.

In a statement on Twitter, Copping said they will release more information about the promised gig soon and asked fans for their patience.

"There should be news regarding the free RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE gig late next week . . ." Copping said in the post. "Patience people. A (Download) announcement will be forthcoming next week, all will be good, you should like what we have. Can't wait for the doubters."

The unlikely upset came as the result of a massive campaign on social networking site Facebook that was spearheaded by a computer engineer who was "fed up by Simon Cowell's latest karaoke act."

The viral movement resulted in the mass purchase of "Killing in the Name," making it the first Christmas number one song in four years that was not associated with X Factor.
