Megadeth has confirmed that original bassist Dave Ellefson has rejoined the group after an eight year absence. Ellefson initially went his own way when the group disbanded in 2002, and declined an offer to rejoin the group when it reformed in 2004.

Ellefson had a widely publicized feud with frontman Dave Mustaine over royalties and rights to the Megadeth name, which resulted in him unsuccessfully suing Mustaine.

Ellefson is now rejoining the band just in time to jump-start their Rust in Peace 20th anniversary tour, which kicks off March 1 in Spokane, Washington.

"This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike," Ellefson said in a statement. "It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career."

Mustaine also spoke about Ellefson's return, noting that it wasn't an easy decision but that fans will reap the benefits.

"This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness," Mustaine said. "David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next, we are going to show you the power of getting you're a**es kicked -- hard!"
