Rapper Lil Wayne, who was expected to be formally sentenced to a year in prison today in a Manhattan court, has escaped sentencing until early March due to dental surgery.

When Wayne appeared in the courtroom, his lawyer, Stacey Richman, told the judge that she had informed the Manhattan District Attorney's Office that the sentencing would need to be postponed because the rapper is currently suffering from a cracked tooth.

The judge agreed and ruled to reschedule for March 2.

Lil Wayne was arrested for gun possession following a concert in New York in July 2007. He originally faced as many as 15 years in jail, but is expected to serve only 10 months after reaching a deal with prosecutors.

The rapper is expected to formally enter his plea and immediately begin serving his term after appearing before Judge Charles H. Solomon.
