A new musical based on the music of the late Jeff Buckley is set to hit theaters next year, according to a new report from Variety. The show, titled The Last Goodbye, features many of Buckley's top tracks, including "Lover, You Should've Come Over" and "Eternal Life."

The tracks will serve as the backdrop for the story, which is said to follow the arc of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Michael Kimmel will direct the show in collaboration with Buckley's mother, Mary Guibert. Music director Kris Kukul and creative consultant Lauren Fitzgerald have also reportedly joined the project's creative team.

After gaining widespread recognition as one of the greatest vocalists of the 1990s, Buckley died suddenly of an accidental drowning in May 1997 in Memphis.

Buckley was scheduled to play a show in Memphis and was waiting for his band to arrive from New York when he decided to go swimming fully clothed and wearing boots in a portion of the Mississippi River. He was allegedly caught in the wake of a passing boat and disappeared. His body surfaced nearly a week later.
