Stevie Wonder was honored by the French as a Commander of Arts and Letters in a ceremony in Paris last weekend. In the ceremony, the "Superstition" singer was presented by French Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterrand, who said, "As citizen, administrator and culture minister I just called to say we love you."
Wonder was initially given the title 30 years ago but was unable to receive the award due to scheduling conflicts.
"I receive this honor in memory of my mother and in memory of all those that have made it possible for me to stand here today," the multi-instrumentalist said in his acceptance speech.
Wonder was also honored with a lifetime achievement award at a separate event in Paris later that evening.
"All this in one day, it's almost too much for me," he said. "I'm breathless."
Stevie Wonder will appear at both the Glastonbury and Bonnaroo Music Festivals this summer.
