A reproduction of Eric Clapton's legendary Beano Les Paul 1960 guitar will be released by Gibson Guitar in December.
The guitar's sound, which Clapton engineered after removing nickel covers from the PAF humbug pickups, became famous after it was used in the seminal 1966 John Mayall album with Clapton titled Blues Breakers. It earned its nickname from the cover, in which Clapton appears reading a copy of the British comic "The Beano."
The original guitar was stolen in July of 1966 and has never been found. However, the sound of the Beano in combination with Clapton's Marshall JTM45 amplifier, which became known as the Bluesbreaker, became highly influential and sought after by guitarists since the album's release.
