The total number of building permits issued in New Zealand surged a seasonally adjusted 17 percent on month in January, Statistics New Zealand said on Friday - standing at 2,496.
That follows the 5.4 percent gain in December.
In the year ended January 2019, the actual number of new dwellings consented was 33,576, up 7.4 percent from the January 2018 year.
The annual value of non-residential building work consented was NZ$7.1 billion, up 7.0 percent from the January 2018 year.
