Spain Inflation Steady At 2.7%; Retail Sales Growth Eases

Spain's consumer price inflation remained stable in August and retail sales growth softened, official data showed on Friday.

The consumer price index posted an annual increase of 2.7 percent in August, the same rate of rise as seen in July, flash data from the statistical office INE revealed. EU harmonized inflation also held steady at 2.7 percent.

Meanwhile, underlying inflation edged up to 2.4 percent from 2.3 percent in the previous month.

The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions. In Asia, the Bank of Japan drew attention for its policy moves, while data out of China threw some light on the state of the economy.
