U.S. Consumer Sentiment Deteriorates Slightly More Than Initially Estimated In August

The University of Michigan released a report on Friday showing consumer sentiment in the U.S. deteriorated by slightly more than previously estimated in the month of August.

The report said the consumer sentiment index for August was downwardly revised to 58.2 from the preliminary reading of 58.6.

Economists had consumer sentiment index the consumer sentiment index to be unrevised from the preliminary reading, which was still down from 61.7 in July.

The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions. In Asia, the Bank of Japan drew attention for its policy moves, while data out of China threw some light on the state of the economy.
