A roadside bomb targeting a U.S. military patrol claimed the lives of four Iraqi children Wednesday.
An explosive planted in a garbage container near an elementary school in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul exploded as students were leaving classes in the afternoon, reports quoting medics and police said.
All the dead children were girls below the age of 12.
A passing U.S. military squad, patrolling the area, narrowly escaped the explosion.
Nineveh province, of which Mosul is the capital, is said to be one of the few strongholds of al- Qaeda in Iraq. Another civilian was killed and several others wounded in twin bomb explosions in the al-Bakr district of eastern Mosul earlier in the day.

In Europe, GDP data was in focus, while inflation data from China dominated the news flow in Asia.
