Stocks are turning in a mixed performance going into the final hour of trading on Friday, with the major averages trading on opposite sides of the unchanged line. The markets have experienced choppy trading throughout the day.
Despite the choppy trading, gold stocks continue to post steep losses amid a steep decline by the price of the precious metal. While semiconductor, banking, and housing stocks are also moving lower, strength remains visible among defense and steel stocks.
With an hour left in the trading day, the Dow is currently holding onto a modest gain, up 22.57 at 8,772.81. Meanwhile, the tech-heavy Nasdaq is down 6.12 at 1,843.90 and the S&P 500 is down 2.94 at 939.52.
