Finland Tourist Overnight Stays Rise In February

Tourist overnight stays in Finnish accommodation establishments increased from last year in February, preliminary data released by Statistics Finland showed Thursday.

The total number of nights spent by tourists increased 8 percent on an annual basis to around 1.4 million in February.

Overnight stays by foreign tourists climbed 22 percent annually to 428,000, while stays by resident tourists advanced 3 percent. Overnight stays by Japanese tourists jumped 51 percent in February, while stays by Russian tourists climbed 32 percent. There was an 18 percent annual growth in stays by U.S. nationals.

In the January-February period, the total number of nights spent by tourists rose 7 percent from the same period last year, with stays by foreign and local visitors rising 17 percent and 2 percent respectively.
