Lithuania's unemployment rate increased sequentially in the first quarter, data released by the Department of Statistics showed Friday.
The unemployment rate rose to 14.5 percent in the first quarter from 13.9 percent in the fourth quarter. In the first quarter of 2011, the unemployment rate was 17.2 percent.
Long-term unemployment rate, which refers to persons unemployed for one year and above, moved up to 7.3 percent in the first quarter from 7.1 percent in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, dropped to 28.7 percent from 32 percent.
The number of jobless persons in the country advanced 4 percent from the previous quarter to around 230,900 during the three-month period. In the first quarter of 2011, the number of jobless totaled around 277,600, the agency said.
