US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Turkey on Saturday for talks on the conflict in neighboring Syria.

Clinton will meet Turkish leaders and Syrian opposition activists and reportedly will discuss preparations for a transition of power in Syria if President Bashar al-Assad's government falls.

As per reports, Clinton's talks will mainly concentrate on how to best co-ordinate support for the fractured Syrian opposition. She is also likely to announce more humanitarian aid for those fleeing the violence.

Thousands of civilians are fleeing violence in Syria, and Turkey is dealing with a growing humanitarian crisis as refugees flood across the border.

Clinton's visit comes after U.S. slapped fresh sanctions on Bashar al-Assad's regime and its allies. Washington on Friday announced sanctions on Syrian state oil company Sytrol for trading with Iran. Lebanese Shi'ite militant group Hezbollah, which has close ties with Iran and Syria, is also added to a U.S. blacklist of organisations targeted under Syria-related sanctions.
