Turkey Capacity Utilization Drops Further, Business Sentiment Improves

Capacity utilization in the Turkish manufacturing sector decreased for the fourth successive month in February, data released by the Central Bank showed Friday.

The unadjusted capacity utilization rate dropped to 72.2 percent in February from 72.4 percent in January. In December and November, the figures were 73.6 percent and 74 percent, respectively.

The capacity utilization rate in the consumer goods industry, on an unadjusted basis, declined to 71.9 percent from 72.3 percent in the previous month, while in the intermediate goods sector it dropped to 73.1 percent from 73.3 percent.

The capacity utilization rate in the investment goods industry was 72.1 percent in February, higher than January's 70.6 percent. In the food and beverages industry, the capacity utilization rate edged up to 70.2 percent from 70.1 percent, data showed.

Separately, the agency said that industrial confidence in Turkey improved for the second successive month in February. The relevant index rose to 107.5 from 102.1 in January.
