Manda Packing Company, a Baker, La., establishment, Friday expanded its previous recall to include approximately 468,000 pounds of roast beef, ham, turkey breast, tasso pork, ham shanks, hog head cheese, corned beef, and pastrami as it suspects possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service or FSIS.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. However, the FSIS said there have been no reports so far of illness associated with consumption of these products.

Each package has a "Sell by" date of May 13 to June 22, 2013, and bears the establishment number "EST. 8746A" inside the USDA mark of inspection with the exception of the ham packages which bear a "Sell by" date of May 13-July 1, the Tasso Pork packages which bear a "Sell by" date of May 13 to July 2 and the Ham Shanks packages which bear a "Sell by" date of May 13 to June 9. However, the packages are not expected to bear the information if they were sliced at the delis.

The products were shipped for further distribution, for sale at retail, and to retail deli stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

FSIS was initially made aware of the problem by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture which confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in an intact sample of cooked roast beef at a retail establishment. The recall is now being expanded because of additional samples from additional production dates which returned positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
