The Czech trade surplus declined in March from a year ago as the decline in exports outpaced fall in imports, the Czech Statistical Office said Tuesday.
The trade surplus fell by CZK 4.1 billion annually to CZK 32.34 billion in March. Economists had forecast the surplus to rise to CZK 36.5 billion. However, it was slightly higher than last month's CZK 32.08 billion surplus.
Year-on-year, exports and imports at current prices fell by 7.1 percent and 6.5 percent respectively.
Due to depreciation of the Czech Koruna against the both main currencies, external trade decreased in both euro and in U.S. dollars terms.
In January to March, exports and imports fell by 4.4 percent and 5.2 percent, respectively. The trade balance surplus totaled CZK 96 billion, up by CZK 1.4 billion from the previous year.
