Malta's merchandise trade deficit decreased significantly from last year in March, preliminary data released by the National Statistics Office showed Friday.
The trade shortfall narrowed to EUR 70.3 million in March from EUR 120.8 million in the same month a year earlier.
Goods exports advanced to EUR 350 million from EUR 298.4 million in March 2012. The value of imports was EUR 420.4 million during the month, little changed from last year's value of EUR 419.2 million.
In the January-March period, the balance was a deficit of EUR 281.7 million, sharply lower than the EUR 342.7 million shortfall recorded in the same period a year earlier, data showed.
