Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX) reported that its second-quarter net income attributable to common stock decreased to $482 million or $0.49 per share, from $710 million or $0.74 per share, last year.

On average, 16 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit of $0.41 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Revenues decreased to $4.29 billion, from $4.48 billion last year. Analysts expected revenue of $4.28 billion for the quarter.
