As the smartwatch market gets heated up with more and more devices, Qualcomm, makers of the popular snapdragon processors, also joins the bandwagon with its latest waterproof smartwatch named the Toq.

Like the Samsung Galaxy Gear, which was launched on the same day, the Toq also runs on Android OS and integrates with smartphones, tablets and other digital devices.

The device has a built-in wireless charging system and comes with a bluetooth headset, also charged wirelessly. Measuring less than 10 mm, the Toq is thinner and fits comfortably, but a tad heavier compared to the Gear.

At 288 X 192 pixels, the 1.55-inch screen is smaller and offers less resolution compared to the Samsung Gear. The Cortex M3 processor clocked at 200MHz also fails to catch up with high-end devices.

Nevertheless, the Qualcomm Mirasol panel is what makes the Toq smartwatch special. Unlike the Gear and other smartwatches in the market, the Toq has no backlight, and utilizes reflected ambient light, which makes it ideal for a low power-consuming device. The battery lasts three days, which is triple the stated time for the Galaxy Gear.

The Toq smartwatch is expected to hit stores in October, with a price tag of $300.
