Franco-Dutch airline Air France - KLM (AFLYY.PK, AFRAF.PK) Monday reported an increase in passengers, traffic and capacity, with load factor remaining unchanged for the month of September. Meanwhile, Germany's second-largest airline airberlin Plc. (AIBEF.PK) recorded a decline in traffic and capacity for the month.

Air France said passengers carried in September increased 0.2 percent to 6.93 million. Load factor was 85.2 percent, unchanged from last year.

Traffic, measured in terms of revenue pax-kilometers, or RPK, advanced 0.7 percent to 19.80 billion from 19.66 billion in the prior year.

Available seat-kilometers, or ASK, a gauge for capacity, was 0.7 percent higher at 23.23 billion compared to 23.08 billion last year.

On the Americas network, traffic rose 1.4 percent, for capacity up 1.6 percent. Load factor was stable at 90.9 percent.

Asia network traffic improved 1.8 percent for capacity increasing 3.4 percent. Meanwhile, load factor declined 1.4 points to 86.9 percent.

Traffic on the European network declined 0.7 percent, with capacity falling 2.1 percent, which resulted in 1.1 point improvement in load factor to 78.6 percent.

The airlines' cargo segment saw 4.1 percent drop in traffic for capacity down 2.0 percent. Load factor declined 1.4 point to 62.4 percent.

Air France is scheduled to announce its third-quarter results and Transform 2015 update on October 31.

Meanwhile, airberlin said it welcomed over 3.31 million passengers on board in the recent month, down 6.4 percent from the same month last year.

The company's fleet capacity utilization throughout its flight network totaled 87.26 percent in September 2013, an increase of 0.2 percentage points from the year-ago figure.

airberlin noted that due to the rise in capacity utilization, revenue passenger kilometers or RPK only dropped by 4.7 percent to 4.89 billion from the prior year's 5.14 billion.

The firm is focusing on increasing flight frequencies on well-established routes and has reduced the available seat kilometers, or ASK in September by 5 percent year-over-year to 5.61 billion.

For the nine-month period ended September 2013, airberlin welcomed 24.696 million passengers on board, down 5.9 percent from the prior-year period. ASK decreased 6.6 percent to 44.20 billion kilometers. RPK totaled 37.84 billion, a decrease of 4.4 percent. Fleet capacity utilization was increased by two percentage points to 85.60 percent.

In Paris, Air France-KLM shares are currently trading at 7.39 euros, down 1.78 percent.

Air Berlin stock is down 0.18 percent at 1.68 euros on Frankfurt's Xetra.
