On Friday, Blake Shelton held a concert for the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes in Tulsa. Shelton partnered with JCP Cares, the charity wing of retailer JC Penney, to host the event for those affected by the storm in Moore, Oklahoma last May.
Shelton previously led his own fundraising effort for his fellow Oklahomans with his Heal the Homeland campaign.
Miki Woodard, president of JCP Cares, tells Tulsa World: "When this came up, because we had that relationship with Blake already and he is from Oklahoma, it was a natural tie-in. We wanted this to be a full circle experience from the beginning of him posting about it, us talking about it, to now when he can actually meet some of our colleagues that he helped."
Dawn Gomes, a JC Penny worker who lost her home in the tornado, told Tulsa World that the Shelton show might be just what the victims of the storm need in this trying time:
"Sometimes you get so involved with the things that are going on, sometimes you just need to go out and have a little fun."
