Artificial intelligence company OpenAI on Thursday announced the launch of the OpenAI Deployment Company, a new business focused on helping enterprises build and deploy AI systems across critical operations and workflows.

As part of the launch, OpenAI agreed to acquire Tomoro, an applied AI consulting and engineering firm, adding about 150 Forward Deployed Engineers and deployment specialists to the new business.

The OpenAI Deployment Company will launch with more than $4 billion in initial investment and will focus on embedding engineers directly within organizations to help redesign workflows, integrate AI systems and accelerate adoption.

The partnership includes 19 investment firms, consultancies and system integrators. TPG is leading the initiative, alongside co-lead founding partners Advent, Bain Capital and Brookfield.

Other founding partners include Goldman Sachs, SoftBank Corp., Warburg Pincus, BBVA and Emergence Capital, while consulting partners include Bain & Company, Capgemini and McKinsey & Company.

OpenAI said the new business is majority-owned and controlled by the company and will operate closely with its research and product teams to help enterprises deploy frontier AI systems.

The company said more than one million businesses have adopted OpenAI products and APIs, with growing demand for AI systems capable of supporting large-scale operational workflows.

The acquisition of Tomoro is expected to close in the coming months, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
