Martin Sharp, an artist and lyricist best known for collaborating with Cream, has died at the age of 71. Early on in his career, Sharp created the signature cover for the albums Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire, but suffered with emphysema during the last years of his life.

The Aussie native also helped found the magazine Oz with Richard Neville.

His partner in the magazine spoke on Sharp's life with Gibson.com:

"He was a fully-charged non-stop rocket in his younger years but it always continued on," Neville began.

He added that Sharp was "an outsider but also an insider . . . At core he was an artist beyond repute in my opinion, but not an artist necessarily certified by the academy."
