Greece's current account deficit for October narrowed from last year, largely due to an improvement in the services surplus that was helped by higher net travel receipts, the Bank of Greece said on Friday.
The current account deficit shrunk to EUR 351.3 million from EUR 576.7 million in the same month a year ago.
The surplus in the services trade grew to EUR 1.333 billion from EUR 1.165 billion last year. Travel receipts increased 20.2 percent to EUR 893.3 million from EUR 743.1 million. This reflected an 18.1 jump in non-resident arrivals.
The shortfall in the income account narrowed to EUR 14.3 million from EUR 27.7 million.
On the other hand, the deficit in the merchandise trade widened to EUR 1.660 billion from EUR 1.621 billion.
For the January-October period, the current account logged a surplus of EUR 2.202 billion, in contrast to a EUR 3.382 billion deficit registered in the same period last year.
