The U.K. unemployment data and Bank of England's minutes of its monetary policy meeting are due at 4:30 am ET Wednesday.
The claimant count is expected to fall by 32,000 in December after declining 36,700 in November. The ILO jobless rate is seen falling to 7.3 percent in three months to November.
Ahead of these releases, the pound showed mixed trading against other major currencies. While the pound weakened against the greenback and the franc, it held steady against the yen and the euro.
The pound was worth 1.6461 against the greenback, 1.4994 against the franc, 0.8227 against the euro and 171.69 against the yen at 4:25 am ET.
