Eating grapefruit regularly could help control lung disease symptoms, according to a new study from researchers in the U.K. For the study the researchers examined the diet of 2,167 people suffering with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), also known as lung disease, in the U.K. and throughout Europe.

They found consistent data that those who had consumed grapefruit, bananas, fish and cheese within 24 hours of a physical exam were likely to see noticeable improvements in their symptoms compared to those had not eaten the same items.

"Diet is a potentially modifiable risk factor in the development and progression of many diseases, and there is evidence that diet plays a role in both the development and clinical features of COPD. This study aimed to evaluate that association," the researchers said in their study report.
