Malaysia's industrial production grew at a faster pace in June, data from the Department of Statistics showed Thursday.

Industrial output climbed 5.3 percent year-on-year in June, much faster than the 2.8 percent increase seen in May and a 2.5 percent rise expected by economists.

The annual growth was driven by a 4.7 percent increase in manufacturing. Mining and electricity output climbed 6.3 percent and 8.7 percent, respectively.

Another report from the statistical office showed that the manufacturing sales value advanced 2.9 percent in June from a year ago. Total employees in manufacturing slid 0.1 percent, while salaries and wages gained 5 percent.
