A higher education institute in Brazil has launched a Master's degree program focused on digital currency and Blockchain technology.

Sao Paulo-based think tank Fundacao Getulio Vargas (FGV) announced that they are starting a Master's degree in Cryptofinance with the aim of grooming new professionals to lead the startup ecosystem in Brazil.

The curriculum includes research on the cryptocurrency markets in the world, and a study of the industry from a more objective, academic perspective.

While several universities in the U.S. are offering classes on the subject, this would be the world's first Master's degree in cryptofinance, FGV claims.

Ricardo Rochman, program coordinator at FGV, said "It is a market with a profound lack of people with expertise. Cryptofinance has economic and financial fundamentals that are worth discussing, researching, and [being] taught."

FGV is the second higher education institute in Brazil to teach cryptofinance in their classes. The University Sao Paulo had integrated cryptocurrencies into the Economics and Business Administration department's Derivatives unit.

Despite increasing popularity for the digital currency in the Latin American country, the authorities' approach is rigid.

Brazilian central bank Governor Ilan Goldfajn views Bitcoin as "a typical bubble, a typical pyramid." He has advised people not to sell their houses to buy these virtual currencies.

The government has imposed 15 percent tax on profits exceeding $11,000 from cryptocurrency trade.
