Stock Exchange Of Thailand Launches Blockchain-based Crowdfunding Platform

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has launched a blockchain-based crowdfunding platform to provide access to new capital funding for domestic startups and SMEs. The platform, dubbed "LiVE" is developed in partnership with public and private sectors.

The platform is currently launched with eight startups and SMEs from various sectors such as mobile application, consumer products and medical equipment, with another 50 waiting to participate in the fund raising.

SET holds 99.99 percent of shares in the crowdfunding platform established as Live Fin Corp Co.,Ltd. The platform will provide Over-the-Counter (OTC) trading service for startups and SMEs to access capital funding.

The use of blockchain technology for the platform will enable participating businesses to expand their infrastructure and get connected with future alliances. The complete startup ecosystem will provide assistance in connecting with institutional and accredited investors.

Kesara noted, "In addition, this platform also offers opportunities for investors, both individual and corporate, who are qualified by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations, to select to invest in their preferred business with growth potential."

Investors in the startups and SMEs will be institutional investor, venture capital, and corporate venture capital. There could also be a specific investors who should have an annual income of at least 4 million Baht or combined assets worth at least 50 million Baht, and at least one year of investment experience.

Meanwhile, the basic qualifications for businesses to join the LiVE platform is to be a registered company in Thailand, whose founders and executives carry no criminal records with financial statement audit conducted by certified auditors.

The businesses must provide record of previous capital raising of at least 5 million Thai Baht or be endorsed by a sponsor, in order to raise more than 20 million Baht on the LiVE platform. Also, a business must present financial statements audited by SEC-certified auditors in order to raise more than 100 million Baht.
