TAM SA June Domestic Load Factor Down, Domestic Traffic Up 9.3%

Air transportation services provider TAM SA (TAM) Monday announced operating results for the month of June, reporting a 9.3% rise in domestic traffic on an 18.3% increase in total capacity.

For the month of June, TAM's domestic load factor declined to 67.1% from 72.7% last year, while international load factor grew to 72.6% from 69.2% in the year-ago month.

Domestic revenue passenger kilometers, or traffic, were 1.96 billion, up 9.3% from a year ago. International traffic increased 32.9% to 1.20 billion from last year.

Domestic available seat kilometers, or capacity, were 2.91 billion, 18.3% higher the prior year month. International capacity rose 26.8% to 1.65 billion from the preceding year.

Domestic market share fell to 48.6% from 49.0% in the same month a year ago, while International market share increased to 75.3% from 69.6% in last year.

For the second quarter, domestic load factor declined to 68.9% from 72.7% in the same quarter of the earlier year. International load factor for the second quarter improved to 73.6% from 69.6% in the previous year quarter.

For the year-to-date period, the company's domestic load factor was 70.0%, lower than 71.7% in the same period of last year. International load factor was 75.2%, up from 70.5% in the preceding year period.

TAM's stock closed Monday's regular trade at $15.31, down 77 cents or 4.79% but gained 2 cents or 0.14% in the after hours trading.
